MESQUITE, Texas (AP) A Dallas-area police officer has shot and killed a man after the fleeing suspect's vehicle rammed a patrol car. Police says the incident began this morning in Garland but ended in neighboring Mesquite. A Garland officer shot and killed the 25-year-old suspect who drove his truck into a squad car.

WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama is visiting a Texas military base exactly two years after he formally declared the end of the U.S. combat mission in Iraq. The White House says today's visit is not campaign-related. The president will speak to troops and have a discussion with military members and families.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A federal court in Washington has struck down a Texas law requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls. The unanimous ruling yesterday rejected the law because Texas failed to prove it wouldn't unfairly harm low-income minority voters. But the state of Texas is vowing to appeal the case to the Supreme Court.

ALLEN, Texas (AP) A wealthy Dallas suburb is gearing up to open its new $60 million high school football stadium, which includes 18,000 seats and a 38-foot-wide high-definition video screen. Allen High School will face defending state champions Southlake Carroll tonight. Allen voters approved a $119 million bond issue that pays for the stadium and other district facilities.
