DALLAS (AP) Health officials say it's the worst year ever for West Nile in Texas. The Texas Department of State Health Services says at least 43 people have died from the virus in Texas. Officials expect the number to increase through mid-October.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) A court-martial set to start in the case against a Texas Air Force instructor accused in a sex scandal at a San Antonio base has been delayed. The trial of Jamey Crawford had been scheduled to begin yesterday afternoon at Lackland Air Force Base. A lawyer with the Air Force training command confirmed the postponement, but offered no explanation.
DALLAS (AP) A Dallas 911 operator has been fired and another suspended over the handling of emergency calls from and about a woman later found dead. Police Chief David Brown fired Angelia Herod-Graham after investigators determined she didn't log information from Deanna Cook's family when they reported her missing on August 19th. Brown also suspended Tonyita Hopkins for 10 days and ordered her reassigned.
BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) A guard at a Southeast Texas prison has been injured after being attacked by an inmate. The Department of Criminal Justice says Officer David Logan was hospitalized yesterday in serious but stable condition following Tuesday's attack at the Stiles Unit in Beaumont. Investigators say 42-year-old inmate Rey Barrera attacked Logan.
