EL PASO, Texas (AP) A West Texas city has reported its first West Nile virus death of the year. The City of El Paso Department of Public Health yesterday confirmed a 77-year-old man died from the virus. The man's death pushes the statewide total of West Nile deaths to at least 44.

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) A judge is expected to order the Army psychiatrist charged in the deadly 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage to have his beard shaved. Colonel Gregory Gross has said he will issue the order this week for Major Nidal Hasan. But the suspect is allowed to appeal, which would cause another delay in his upcoming murder trial.

TEMPLE, Texas (AP) Groundbreaking for a natural gas-fueled power plant in Central Texas is set for today. Panda Temple Power LLC will build the plant in Temple. The Dallas-based company has said the plant will create about 800 construction jobs.

MANASSAS, Va. (AP) The Texans who played a key role in the Civil War Battle of Second Manassas are being honored with a monument. The Texas Historical Commission will dedicate the monument today to Hood's Texas Brigade at the northern Virginia battlefield. The monument will honor the Texas soldiers who played a role in General Robert E. Lee's decisive battle in August 1862.
