GALVESTON, Texas (AP) A mixed martial arts fighter in Texas has been charged in the 2011 shooting death of a man on a bicycle. Galveston police say 23-year-old Ralph Garcia Jr. has been charged with murder. Police Chief Henry Porretto says investigators don't believe Garcia knew 27-year-old Maxie Troy Flowers, who was found dead last October.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) An environmental panel in Central Texas has recommended endangered status for four salamander species. The resolution from the Austin Environmental Board now goes to the Austin City Council. The Austin American-Statesman reports Austin would be the first city in the area to favor listing the salamander species as endangered.

WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) A Texas company is buying a North Dakota-based wind tower manufacturer. Parent Otter Tail says it's selling DMI Industries properties in North Dakota, Oklahoma and Ontario to Dallas-based Trinity Industries for $20 million. Otter Tail didn't say how the sale will affect its employees.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas is urging residents to make sure they are immunized against whooping cough. The Department of State Health Services says six deaths and more than 1,000 cases have been reported so far this year. Officials say it is important for parents and others around newborns to get the recommended doses.
