MCKINNEY, Texas (AP) A North Texas woman has been sentenced to 50 years in prison in a plea deal over the 2007 killing of her estranged husband. Vera Guthrie-Nail pleaded guilty yesterday in McKinney to conspiracy to commit capital murder in the death of Craig Nail. Prosecutors said this week that Guthrie-Nail "didn't pull the trigger but she pulled all the strings necessary to get it done."
BULLARD, Texas (AP) A pilot has been killed in a small plane crash in East Texas. The Texas Department of Public Safety yesterday identified the victim as 51-year-old Stephen Annis of Huntsville. Investigators say the aircraft went down yesterday afternoon in the Bullard area.
LIBERTY, Texas (AP) A 20-year-old man convicted in the repeated group sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl returns to court after fleeing a trial before his conviction. Eric McGowen will be formally sentenced today in the same Liberty courtroom he fled nearly two weeks ago. McGowen was arrested on Tuesday in a Houston apartment.
HOUSTON (AP) A former executive with disgraced Texas financier R. Allen Stanford is set to learn her fate in a Houston courtroom. Former Stanford chief investment officer Laura Pendergest-Holt is scheduled to be sentenced today for her role in helping Stanford bilk investors out of more than $7 billion. Two other Stanford executives are set for trial later this month.
