LIBERTY, Texas (AP) A 20-year-old man who fled his trial a day before being convicted in the repeated group sexual assault of an 11-year-old Southeast Texas girl has been formally sentenced. Eric McGowen was told by a judge yesterday that jurors sentenced him to 99 years in prison. McGowen was arrested Tuesday, nearly two weeks after he fled.

HOUSTON (AP) A former executive in the empire of disgraced Texas financier R. Allen Stanford has been sentenced to three years in prison. Former Stanford chief investment officer Laura Pendergest-Holt was sentenced for her role in helping Stanford bilk investors out of more than $7 billion. Two other Stanford executives are set for trial later this month.

DALLAS (AP) A Texas man linked to the hacking group Anonymous has been detained by the FBI for allegedly threatening a federal agent. Thirty-one-year-old Barrett Brown of Dallas was arrested Wednesday and later transferred into FBI custody. Brown's attorney says he expects Brown to be charged because of YouTube videos he posted in recent days.

HOUSTON (AP) A fourth Houston resident has died of West Nile virus, bringing the Texas death toll from the virus to at least 52. Houston health officials say the death of a man between the ages of 75 and 84 was reported on Monday. Texas has about half of the U.S. deaths from West Nile.
