HOUSTON (AP) A fifth person has died of West Nile virus in the Houston metropolitan area. Federal health officials say this is the nation's worst year for the mosquito-borne virus since it was discovered in New York 13 years ago. Texas has about half of the U.S. deaths from the illness.

IRVING, Texas (AP) Hostess says it will go to bankruptcy court to force terms of a deal reached with its largest union. The maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread says the new contract terms are needed to stay in business. Although the largest union approved a new deal, another one has rejected it.

DALLAS (AP) The president of American Airlines' pilot union says a new deal is less likely now that the company has imposed its own work and pay terms.
