SUDAN, Texas (AP) Services have been held in West Texas for a 55-year-old Baptist missionary found slain in her apartment in Jordan. Cheryll Harvey was being remembered yesterday at First Baptist Church in her hometown of Sudan, about 50 miles northwest of Lubbock. Harvey had taught English in Jordan for 24 years before she was stabbed on September 4th.

DENVER (AP) The man accused of opening fire in a suburban Denver movie theater in July, killing 12 and injuring 58 others, withdrew his application from a Texas A and M graduate program just before he was scheduled for an on-campus interview. The university released several documents Friday after an open records request from the Denver Post newspaper about 24-year-old James Holmes.

DALLAS (AP) Dallas city officials for two years now have been using money intended for restaurant health inspections to cover budget shortfalls in other areas. The Dallas Morning News reported yesterday that about $1.36 million paid by restaurant owners to cover the costs of the inspections was allocated elsewhere in the city budget.

HOUSTON (AP) A federal appeals court has rejected an appeal from a suburban Dallas man sent to death row for the road rage slayings of two truck drivers 14 years ago. Friday's ruling from the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals moves 54-year-old Douglas Feldman a step closer to execution for the shooting deaths of 36-year-old Robert Everett and 62-year-old Nicholas Velasquez in 1999.
