LARIAT, Texas (AP) An Austin-area teenager is dead and five others injured following a one-vehicle crash in Parmer County. Department of Public Safety troopers say 14-year-old Jordan Simms of Round Rock was ejected from an SUV when the driver apparently lost control of an SUV on U.S. Highway 70 Saturday morning. The vehicle rolled over several times before winding up on its top.
FALFURRIAS, Texas (AP) Border Patrol officials say the decomposed bodies of two people found in the Rio Grande Valley are believed to be illegal immigrants. Spokesman Henry Mendiola tells The Monitor of McAllen the bodies were found by agents on Friday night. Mendiola says the pair likely succumbed to dehydration or heat stroke.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Fort Worth police say armed muggers who held up an Arlington man used a pit bull as an accomplice. The man told officers he was waiting for a ride near a convenience store last week when three men with a dog came up to him, hit him with a shotgun and the dog bit him. Authorities say no one has been arrested.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) A North Texas man goes on trial this week for the stabbing death of an 18-year-old woman nearly three decades ago. Forty-five-year-old Ryland Absalon is charged with capital murder in the September 1984 death of Ginger Hayden. Jury selection in Absalon's trial begins today.
