HOUSTON (AP) Houston's police chief has asked the FBI to help investigate the deadly shooting of a wheelchair-bound double amputee by an officer. Chief Charles McClelland also asked the community yesterday to "reserve judgment" after the shooting on Saturday. Officer Matthew Marin shot Brian Claunch after responding to a call that the amputee was causing a disturbance at a group home.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) An Air Force training instructor charged in the sex scandal at Lackland Air Force Base has been sentenced to 45 days' confinement during a special court-martial. Staff Sergeant Jason Manko was sentenced after pleading guilty yesterday. Manko also received a reduction in grade to airman first class.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Military officials say an Army psychiatrist charged in the Fort Hood shooting rampage has been hospitalized for undisclosed reasons. Officials say Major Nidal Hasan was in good condition yesterday after being admitted to the Army post's hospital on Saturday. A news release says Hasan should be released within two days.

DALLAS (AP) A four-year-old Dallas boy whose cancer battle inspired a photo project has died. Dyrk Burcie lost his battle with the disease yesterday. Colleagues of Dyrk's firefighter father organized photos with the child's name and a message to cheer up the family. The project caught on with crews at other departments, who also posted images on a Facebook page devoted to Dyrk.
