EL PASO, Texas (AP) A judge in West Texas has ordered DNA testing on a man who claims to be the brother of actor Sherman Hemsley. The judge yesterday delayed the El Paso trial on the Hemsley's estate. He died of lung cancer on July 24th.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) A North Texas man has been arrested in connection with the deaths of his ex-girlfriend and their one-year-old son whose bodies were found during a fire. Bond has been set at $1 million for 29-year-old Thomas Olivas of Bedford. Officials say 26-year-old Mechelle Gandy had been stabbed and her son, Asher Olivas, died as a result of the March 2011 blaze.
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) A former Army recruiter is hoping the U.S. Supreme Court postpones his execution for a fourth time. Forty-eight-year-old Cleve Foster is set to die this evening in Huntsville for the 2002 shooting death of a 30-year-old woman. The high court is considering an appeal that contends Foster is innocent and received poor legal help at his trial.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Country music legend Willie Nelson will tell stories about his life, family and Texas in his new memoir. Nelson will release "Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die" on November 13th. A news release says the book will include contributions from his son, Micah, and a forward by musician and friend Kinky Friedman.
