FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) A former North Texas banker who stole $2 million from customers has been sentenced to more than five years in prison. Forty-year-old Pamela Cobb was also ordered yesterday to repay more than $1.1 million. The former Bank of American branch manager pleaded guilty in March to bank fraud.

DALLAS (AP) Dallas-based Eagle Materials Inc. is buying two cement plants and their affiliated operations from Lafarge North America for $446 million. The deal was announced yesterday. The construction materials supplier also will get six distribution terminals, eight ready-mix concrete plants and a fly-ash business.

DALLAS (AP) The State Fair of Texas opens tomorrow in Dallas. Organizers have chosen "Big and Bright" as this year's theme for the festival, which runs through October 21st at Fair Park. Free concerts include Kevin Costner & Modern West, Kansas and Kellie Pickler.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) University of Texas President Williams Powers is set to deliver his annual "State of the University" address. Powers is scheduled to give the address this afternoon on the UT-Austin campus. The speech will be televised live on the Longhorn Network.
