PASADENA, Texas (AP) Pasadena police are searching for a man who grabbed a 10-year-old girl and tried to pull off her clothing before she was able to escape. Police say the girl told police the man grabbed her early Tuesday evening while she was playing near the apartment complex where she lives. Pasadena is located about 15 miles southeast of Houston.
EDINBURG, Texas (AP) A South Texas man sentenced to 60 years in prison after being convicted of murder asked the victim's son for forgiveness while being escorted out of the courtroom. Sergio Gomez was sentenced yesterday in the shooting death last year of Alejandro Davila following dinner at Davila's Edinburg home. Gomez told Davila's son, also named Alejandro, "I would like to ask for your forgiveness."
NEKOOSA, Wis. (AP) Executives at Nekoosa (neh-KOO'-sah) Coated Products says they are partnering with a Texas company to buy the specialty papermaker. Nekoosa CEO Paul Charapata and other executives will invest their own money along with Wingate Partners of Dallas to buy the plant in central Wisconsin.
EL PASO, Texas (AP) A former superintendent is scheduled to be sentenced today for his part in a scheme to fraudulently improve high-stakes school testing scores in the El Paso Independent School District. Lorenzo Garcia admitted to devising a scheme to keep hundreds of low-performing sophomores from taking the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test. Lorenzo Garcia pleaded guilty in federal court in June to two counts of fraud.
