DALLAS (AP) A 23-year-old Dallas woman who glued her toddler's hands to a wall says her five children were a constant source of stress in her life. Elizabeth Escalona took the stand yesterday during a sentencing hearing. Escalona faces up to life in prison after pleading guilty in July.
SIERRA BLANCA, Texas (AP) Authorities say drugs and a gun were found on rapper Nelly's tour bus at a West Texas border checkpoint. Hudspeth County sheriff's officials say a search Wednesday night turned up small amounts of marijuana and heroin and a loaded gun. Previous drug-related arrests of celebrities at the same checkpoint near Sierra Blanca include Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg and Fiona Apple.
FORT BELVOIR, Va. (AP) An Army appeals court is questioning whether the Fort Hood shooting suspect can be forcibly shaved. The judges yesterday also looked into a claim by Major Nidal Hasan's lawyers that the judge who issued the order is biased. Hasan faces the death penalty if convicted in the 2009 attack that killed 13 people.
McALLEN, Texas (AP) A South Texas man has been sentenced to six years in prison for having sex with a minor in Mexico. Fifty-eight-year-old Carmen Alonzo had pleaded guilty earlier this year to illicit sexual conduct in a foreign country. Prosecutors say Alonzo worked for the company that owned the bridge at the Progreso border crossing.
