AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Deceased state Senator Mario Gallegos Junior was laid in state in the Senate Chamber of the Texas Capitol yesterday. State troopers carried the Houston lawmaker's casket through the east entrance of the Capitol. A memorial service was held Friday afternoon. Gallegos died on Tuesday from complications related to liver disease.

DALLAS (AP) The two bitter rivals for Texas' open U.S. Senate seat have stayed calm and civil during their second and final debate. Republican tea party favorite Ted Cruz agreed almost as much as he differed with Democrat Paul Sadler yesterday. The two are competing in November 6th election, but Cruz is the overwhelming favorite in GOP-leaning Texas.

ABILENE, Texas (AP) State Child Protective Services officials have placed a regional director, a supervisor and a caseworker on leave in the wake of a 22-month-old Abilene girl's death. In memos to the three, top CPS officials tell the three that they're on "emergency leave" pending the results of an Abilene police investigation of Tamryn Klapheke's (klah-FEE'-keez) death. Her mother, Tiffany Nicole Klapheke (klah-FEE'-kee), faces three felony charges of injury to child in her August 28th death.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Lance Armstrong says he's been through a "difficult couple of weeks" and urged supporters of his cancer-fighting charity to stand behind its mission. Armstrong gave the welcoming remarks last night in Austin at the 15th anniversary celebration for Livestrong, the charity he founded in 1997 and stepped down from on Wednesday.
