DALLAS (AP) Bishop T.D. Jakes is bringing his religious conference MegaFest to Dallas for the first time. Jakes is senior pastor of The Potter's House, a 30,000-member Dallas-based church. The Dallas Morning News reports that the conference, which can attract more than 100,000 participants, will run August 29th through 31st at the Dallas Convention Center.
DALLAS (AP) Dallas police say a homeowner who walked in on three men burglarizing her home including one with a handgun opened fire on the suspects, killing one. Police say she shot two of the three suspects in the early morning hours yesterday. Police say 19-year-old Larry Williams fled and then collapsed behind a neighbor's house. He was taken to the hospital, where he died. The two other suspects fled and were caught by police.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price has wrapped up her first full season of "rolling town halls," bike rides designed to encourage fitness that have also resulted in lots of interaction with the public on city issues. On Friday night Price lead about 100 riders from downtown to a historic cemetery and back. There have been about 50 rides so far.
HOUSTON (AP) The Oklahoma City Thunder have traded Sixth Man of the Year James Harden to the Houston Rockets, breaking up the young core of the Western Conference champions. Harden will become a free agent next summer if the Rockets don't sign him to an extension by October 31st.
