Derrick Birdow's brother says he doesn't know why Birdow drove to Greater Sweethome Missionary Baptist Church in Forest Hill on Monday. Officers subdued him with a Taser after finding him assaulting the Rev. Danny Kirk Sr. with a guitar.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) A Louisiana parolee is set to be executed in Texas for killing his girlfriend at her East Texas home nine years ago. Forty-one-year-old Donnie Lee Roberts faces lethal injection today in Huntsville for the death of 44-year-old Vicki Bowen. The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to review Roberts' case.

McALLEN, Texas (AP) A Guatemalan diplomat says Texas law enforcement agents were close enough to a pickup truck to see there were people inside before one opened fire from a helicopter. Alba Caceres says survivors claimed the Department of Public Safety helicopter was 450 to 600 feet away last week when a trooper opened fire, killing two people. The passengers were involved in a failed human smuggling attempt.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) A body found in a burning sport utility vehicle is that of a man in whose North Texas home a teenage girl was killed. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says firefighters discovered the body of 44-year-old Robert Dodson II in the flaming SUV on Sunday night. It was Dodson who found 17-year-old Claudia Hidic dead of a gunshot wound on the back doorstep of Dodson's Fort Worth home in June.
