DALLAS (AP) The line of voters has been out the front door of the League City Civic Center in suburban Houston today and there have been half-hour waits at polling places in Houston and Lubbock. In the Dallas suburb of Farmers Branch, a first-time voter needed only five minutes to complete the process.
GALVESTON, Texas (AP) Officials are asking a court to keep polls in Galveston County open for an extra two hours tonight. Some of the voting centers were delayed in opening this morning because of computer issues. Nearly all were fully operating by mid-morning.
HOUSTON (AP) An engineering expert says there have been problems with the brand of stove at the center of a fire in a Houston day care that killed four children. He testified at the trial of Jessica Tata, who is charged with murder in the death of one of the kids. A prosecution expert said last week he found no problems with the stove.
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) A Lubbock man who admits killing a woman and her adult son has been sentenced to life in prison without parole. Casey Ledbetter pleaded guilty to capital murder in the deaths of Joanie Parker and Derek Hale last year. Ledbetter's wife also got life in prison for the killings, which prosecutors say resulted from a money dispute.
