DALLAS (AP) An elementary school teacher in South Texas has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for having sex with a 12-year-old male student. Forty-one-year-old Lucinda Rodriguez Caldwell was sentenced yesterday. Caldwell taught at Cable Elementary School in San Antonio when she was arrested in July 2010.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas (AP) Firefighters battled a blaze on a tugboat docked in Southeast Texas for more than 12 hours before it was extinguished. The Beaumont Enterprise reports four crewmembers on board yesterday were taken to a hospital as a precaution. Fire crews battled the blaze near Port Arthur as the boat was docked on the Intracoastal Waterway.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) Three BP employees are scheduled to be arraigned on criminal charges stemming from the deadly Deepwater Horizon rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. Well site leaders Robert Kaluza and Donald Vidrine are scheduled to be arraigned today after being indicted earlier this month on manslaughter charges. A separate indictment accuses former executive David Rainey of concealing information from Congress.

LONDON (AP) British medical technology company Smith & Nephew is buying Texas-based Healthpoint Biotherapeutics for $782 million. Smith & Nephew CEO Olivier Bohuon says the acquisition would strengthen the company's position in bioactive wound care. The British company also says Healthpoint will continue to be based in Fort Worth.
