MCALLEN, Texas (AP) One of two men who were arrested while allegedly trying to smuggle weapons for a Mexican cartel is scheduled to appear in federal court today. Juan Ricardo Martinez Cardenas has a detention hearing in McAllen. He was arrested Monday in Roma during a police traffic stop.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas Education Commissioner Michael Williams will deliver a speech today in Austin. His comments come one day after Governor Rick Perry urged him to delay a requirement that high school students should have standardized test scores factored into their final grades. Perry wants to extend a deferral until the next school year.
