HOUSTON (AP) Former President George Herbert Walker Bush remains in stable condition at a Houston hospital where he is being treated for a lingering cough related to bronchitis. A spokesman for Methodist Hospital says today that there is no change in the status of the 88-year-old Bush. Hospital visitors have included Bush's son, former President George W. Bush, and his wife, former first lady Laura Bush.
FRISCO, Texas (AP) A North Texas battery recycling plant is closing in a $45 million deal to end disputes over lead emissions and ground contamination. The Exide Technologies plant in Frisco shut down today. The fast-growing city of about 121,000 north of Dallas will buy 180 acres of undeveloped land owned by the company.
BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) Police say a 90-year-old Southeast Texas man has died in a house fire blamed on a space heater in his home. Beaumont police on Friday identified the victim as Junius Hill. Police say firefighters responded to emergency calls about a burning house late last night.
AMARILLO, Texas (AP) Texas prison officials say a man serving a life term for the 2006 killing of a Lubbock State School co-worker has died of apparent natural causes. Jason Clark with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said today that 62-year-old Mickey Patterson died in the infirmary at the Clements Unit in Amarillo. Patterson died Wednesday. He was convicted last year of murder in the August 2006 death of Kay Harrelson.
