AUSTIN, Texas (AP) U.S. Senator John Cornyn (KOHR'-nihn) and Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott are urging lawmakers to pass new federal legislation fighting child pornography, sexual predators and human trafficking. If it's approved and signed into law, the Child Protection Act would increase the penalties for pornography, protect child witnesses and give U.S. marshals new authority to obtain time-sensitive documents.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) An East Texas pastor says an Alaska murder suspect who confessed to targeting people across the country ranted at his sister's wedding about how he didn't believe in God. Israel Keyes told authorities he killed Anchorage barista Samantha Koenig and at least seven others over the past decade.

EL PASO, Texas (AP) The U.S. Army will award a posthumous Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars today to a World War Two private who was hurt when he was hit by a German tank. Today's awards ceremony at Fort Bliss comes 68 years after Juan Marquez was hurt in battle. He died in 1948.
