MONTERREY, Mexico (AP) The NTSB says the plane carrying singer Jenni Rivera had been damaged once before in a landing mishap. The U.S.-born singer who became a Mexican-American superstar died Sunday in a crash in Mexico. The twin-turbojet had been substantially damaged during a 2005 landing mishap in Amarillo.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) A Corpus Christi man was shot and killed by police last night after a five-and-a-half hour standoff with authorities at his home. Investigators say Daniel Scott opened fire on officers, who then fired back. Neighbors and police say the 56-year-old was mentally ill.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is helping a nonprofit children's advocacy group kick off a campaign to raise awareness about sexual abuse. Abbott's set to appear at an event today in Austin with the Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas.
DALLAS (AP) Dozens of items belonging to President Gerald Ford and first lady Betty Ford are heading to the auction blocks today in Dallas. The items, which include the late president's golf clubs and the last flag that flew over the White House during the Ford presidency, are being sold to raise money for a new student learning center at the Gerald R. Ford Museum in Michigan.
