NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) A Nacogdoches (na-kuh-DOH'-chihs) County judge will hear arguments today from the Keystone XL pipeline developer who's trying to lift a temporary halt on pipeline construction on a private property. TransCanada is building part of an oil pipeline to crude from Canada to the Gulf Coast. The property rights dispute is the latest legal battle to plague a project.
ALVIN, Texas (AP) Investigators are still trying to answer questions about who fatally shot a suspected drunk driver after he crashed his car into two young brothers. Brazoria County officials say there are no formal suspects in the Friday night shooting for 20-year-old Jose Banda. The two boys died in the crash.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A Central Texas man was sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing his daughter's girlfriend and her mother. Prosecutors say Jose Alfonso Aviles killed 57-year-old Maria Hurtado and 24-year-old Norma Hurtado in 2001 because he was upset that his high school-age daughter was in a relationship with the younger woman.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) A weak earthquake rattled part of North Texas last night. The U.S. Geological Survey says the 2.6-magnitude quake hit around 8 p.m. about 13 miles south of Fort Worth. No damage was reported.
