BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) The founder of a Texas cargo airline has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for child pornography. Robert Hedrick stood accused of having explicit chats with undercover officers posing as teenage girls. The 61-year-old founder of Pan American Airways was sentenced yesterday in South Texas.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Governor Rick Perry has asked the embattled Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas to stop giving grants until concerns about the agency are resolved. The institute controls the nation's second-largest pot of cancer research dollars. Perry made the request yesterday in a letter to the agency's oversight committee.
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) Authorities say one person was killed and at least 17 injured in a series of accidents that occurred during a violent West Texas dust storm. John Gonzalez with the Texas Department of Public Safety says 23 vehicles were involved in a series of chain-reactions crashes yesterday afternoon. Gonzalez says a man died after his SUV slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer.
DALLAS (AP) Two Irving women have sued the Texas Department of Public Safety over a body cavity search by a female trooper along a Dallas-area highway. The lawsuit claims the July search of 38-year-old Angel Dobbs and her niece, 24-year-old Ashley Dobbs, was unlawful. The dispute is expected to reach a grand jury next month.
