HOUSTON (AP) A 22-year-old Houston-area man shot by robbers last Friday who wanted his new Air Jordan tennis shoes has died of his wounds. The Houston Chronicle reports today that Joshua Wood died at Houston Northwest Hospital. Authorities say no arrests have been made.
LONGVIEW, Texas (AP) Louisiana authorities have arrested a third person now facing capital murder charges for the slaying of a Texas man whose beaten and burned body was found a week ago in East Texas's Upshur County. Vernon Parish officials say 21-year-old Andrew Norwine was arrested yesterday. He remains jailed in Leesville, Louisiana today on $1 million bond awaiting extradition to Texas.
HOUSTON (AP) A Houston freeway has re-opened hours after a tanker truck crashed and exploded. Authorities say the driver was killed in the wreck on U.S. Highway 59 east of George Bush Intercontinental Airport and hazardous material crews have been trying to determine the nature of the cargo. The driver of the truck was not immediately identified this afternoon.
DALLAS (AP) Health experts are turning their attention to learning lessons from one of the deadliest West Nile outbreaks in U.S. history. Federal authorities are collecting data and examining factors for the mosquito-borne illness that killed more than 240 in the U.S. about a third of them in Texas. Meanwhile, Dallas County, the epicenter of the outbreak, has begun year-round mosquito surveillance and testing.
