HOUSTON (AP) Former President George H.W. Bush's chief of staff is asking that people "put the harps back in the closet." But Jean Becker says the 88-year-old Bush is sick and likely will be in the hospital for a while. The ex-president has been hospitalized in Houston since November 23rd, and he was admitted to the intensive care unit on Sunday.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Austin police officer who stopped Charles Whitman's 1966 sniper rampage from atop the University of Texas tower has died. Houston McCoy died yesterday in the rural town of Menard at the age of 72. McCoy shot and killed Whitman after the sniper gunned down 16 people during nearly two hours of terror on the campus.

DALLAS (AP) The widow of a military veteran killed when a parade float was struck by a train in West Texas has filed a wrongful death suit. Catherine Stouffer is seeking unspecified damages in the suit filed yesterday. Her husband, 37-year-old Gary Stouffer Jr., was one of four veterans killed last month in Midland.

MANSFIELD, La. (AP) A Houston rapper is out on bond after being arrested in Louisiana on drug and weapons charges. Thirty-one-year-old Wesley Weston, also known as Lil' Flip, was taken into custody Wednesday after deputies pulled him over for speeding. They allegedly found marijuana and a semiautomatic weapon in his possession.
