HOUSTON (AP) WEATHERFORD, Texas (AP) A 17-year-old boy is accused in the fatal shooting of his mother and 15-year-old sister in North Texas. Parker County Assistant District Attorney Jeff Swain says Jake Evans was indicted Friday on one count of capital murder and two counts of murder in the October deaths in Aledo, 20 miles west of Fort Worth.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) A San Antonio firefighter has died in a blaze at his own mobile home. Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown says firefighters found 31-year-old Matthew Whitley's body early yesterday after the fire engulfed his home.

HOUSTON (AP) A Houston man has been arrested in the Christmas Eve killings of his former girlfriend and her teenage daughter. Curtis James Adams is accused of fatally shooting 35-year-old LaTasha Jones and 13-year-old Jakaela Newhouse. Adams has been jailed on aggravated assault and firearm possession charges.

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) Hundreds of sharks have been killed by an illegal fishing net off the South Texas coast. The U.S. Coast Guard says its crew pulled the carcasses of 225 black tip, 109 bonnet and 11 bull sharks from the 5-mile long net near South Padre Island. Coast Guard Cmdr. Daniel Deptula says such nets deplete Mexican fisheries and lead to illegal fishing in U.S. waters.
