WASHINGTON (AP) Newly-elected U.S. Senator Ted Cruz says it's difficult to imagine supporting former U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel for the Pentagon's top job. The Texas Republican told "Fox News Sunday" he has issues with Hagel stemming from his comments about Israel. Hagel was quoted in a book complaining about the influence of the pro-Israel lobby on U.S. lawmakers.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) Some Texas courts have been using a new pretrial order to confiscate guns from those who have been arrested in domestic violence incidents. The order is being used on a case-by-case basis in the San Antonio area. An El Paso judge began the practice last year.

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) A South Texas district attorney has suspended a pretrial program intended to give a second chance to some first-time, non-violent offenders. Cameron County District Attorney Luis Saenz says he found that more serious offenders were allowed into the program. Saenz will temporarily suspend new entries until the guidelines are re-established.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) A semitrailer hauling 32 bulls slammed into a tree on Interstate 75 in Florida, forcing authorities to chase down and shoot one of three animals that escaped. A veterinarian sedated another bulls with a dart following Saturday's crash. The semi driver says the animals were being hauled from Texas to Indiantown, Fla.
