McALLEN, Texas (AP) A former Department of Homeland Security special agent has been charged for his alleged role in a conspiracy to falsify documents before an internal investigation. Court documents say former special agent Wayne Ball signed and backdated falsified reports. The investigation's focus has been the Homeland Security Inspector General's Office in McAllen where Ball worked.

DALLAS (AP) Officials aren't sure if a man killed in a gas explosion in suburban Dallas was notified about a leak in the area. Lewisville city spokesman James Kunke says "we can't say for sure" if Scott Deahl was told Friday that crews were working on closing a natural gas leak about 50 feet from his home. Fire officials initially said last week that Deahl was notified.

RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (AP) A 72-year-old North Texas woman charged with an anti-gay hate crime has died before her case could go to court. Wanda Derby was to appear at her first pretrial hearing yesterday, but Tarrant County prosecutors say she died in November. Derby was arrested last March after Richland Hills police say he repeatedly hit a 25-year-old man with her cane and used it to choke him.

HOUSTON (AP) Former President George H.W. Bush has left a Houston hospital after nearly two months. Bush spokesman Jim McGrath says the 88-year-old ex-president was released yesterday from Methodist Hospital. Bush was admitted November 23rd for treatment of complications resulting from bronchitis.
