AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Governor Rick Perry says he's disgusted by the "political left" using massacre in Newtown, Conn., to advance a pro-gun control agenda. As President Barack Obama unveiled proposals for gun violence yesterday, Perry said no law "could have saved the children" killed in the mass shooting. Perry also said that the Second Amendment can't be limited by the president.
BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) Police have offered a $1,000 reward for information related to a package bomb that exploded and seriously injured three family members in South Texas. Brownsville police say tips can be made anonymously in the attempted capital murder case. The family found the package outside their home last Friday and took it inside. One of several devices inside the package detonated after it was opened.
MOODY, Texas (AP) A Central Texas man has been charged with capital murder in the deaths of his mother and stepfather. Forty-two-year-old Darrell Parker of Little River has been jailed in Belton without bond. Authorities say the bodies of 63-year-old Cathy Youngblood and 62-year-old Chuck Youngblood were found Tuesday morning at their home near Moody.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) An 18-year-old Fort Worth man convicted of orchestrating the killing of a man over a $40 Super Bowl bet has been sentenced to 35 years in prison. Jurors in Fort Worth arrived at the sentence for Edward Washington III yesterday. Authorities say 20-year-old Jarami Thomas was shot to death in March 2011 outside an Arlington convenience store.
