MCALLEN, Texas (AP) A Mexican man has been sentenced to more than one year in prison in the U.S. for trying to bribe an officer to let illegal immigrants slip through a Texas border crossing. Thirty-one-year-old Jose Huerta-Aguilar was sentenced yesterday in McAllen. Prosecutors say Huerta-Aguilar was trying to pass illegal immigrants across the border with no inspection.
GALVESTON, Texas (AP) Investigators say a North Carolina couple who committed suicide in a Southeast Texas hotel apparently had money trouble. Fifty-three-year-old Dr. Leslie Cargile and her 58-year-old husband, William, were found dead last August in a Galveston hotel room. A police report released last week indicated the couple lived in an expensive home and apparently had severe financial trouble.
BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) A former U.S. Homeland Security agent charged with conspiracy to falsify investigative records is expected to enter a plea in federal court. Wayne Ball is scheduled to appear in a Brownsville court today. Ball was charged Monday with signing and backdating bogus reports.
MCKINNEY, Texas (AP) Former Dallas Cowboys star Deion Sanders and his estranged wife, Pilar, must share custody of their three children pending the couple's divorce. A judge yesterday also gave Sanders exclusive rights to determine the children's primary residence and make education decisions. The children range in age from 9 to 12.
