DALLAS (AP) Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, missed President Barack Obama's second inauguration, but sent the president best wishes from him and the former first lady. Bush served two terms before Obama's succession. His father, former President George H.W. Bush, sent a similar message to the Obamas.
SPLENDORA, Texas (AP) A Southeast Texas couple living on an old school bus with two children is making progress. Mark and Sherrie Shorten are due in court today and Child Protective Services officials are expected to recommend a judge dismiss the agency's case against them. CPS officials say the children are in school and the parents have complied with care plans, evaluations and therapy.
NEDERLAND, Texas (AP) The family of one of three Americans killed in a hostage standoff at a natural gas complex in Algeria says it will comment about their loved one's death today. Victor Lynn Lovelady from Southeast Texas was identified yesterday as the second Texan who died in the standoff. His sister-in-law says the family will speak at a news conference today in Nederland.
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) A former Texas Tech student who failed to show up to serve a 15-year prison sentence has been captured in Houston. Lubbock police say 23-year-old Jeena Roberts of The Woodlands was caught yesterday. Roberts pleaded guilty last year in connection with a 2010 wreck that killed 54-year-old Linda Smaltz.
