HOUSTON (AP) A 22-year-old is facing charges after yesterday's shooting at a college north of Houston. No one was killed when a volley of gunshots erupted just after noon at Lone Star College. Carlton Berry is charged with aggravated assault.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A panel of Texas state senators will spend time today digging into education funding when the Legislature returns to Austin. The powerful Senate Finance Committee is scheduled to begin a series of hearings examining proposed budgets for public schools and universities. Both absorbed deep cuts two years ago.

WEATHERFORD, Texas (AP) A 17-year-old who's accused of killing his mother and younger sister is set to appear at a pretrial hearing today in North Texas. Jacob Evans is charged with capital murder for the deaths in Aledo, 20 miles west of Fort Worth. Prosecutors say he killed the two then called 911 and confessed.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) A convicted killer who pretended to be a police officer in order to try to sexually assault a woman was sentenced to 90 years in a Texas prison yesterday. Sixty-two-year-old Raul Alvarez-Mijan was sentenced in Fort Worth after he was convicted of impersonating a public servant.
