FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Authorities say a Fort Worth police officer has been shot and a suspect killed following a drug-related pursuit. Police last night described the officer's injuries as non-life-threatening, and said he was hospitalized in serious condition. The chase began yesterday afternoon as Haltom City police stopped a vehicle during a narcotics investigation.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) A former South Texas high school teacher has been sentenced to more than nine years in prison for having child pornography at his home. Forty-one-year-old Jesus Orta was sentenced yesterday in Corpus Christi. Orta was arrested following a September disturbance in which he claimed a relative was trespassing. He initially refused to let officers search his home and was later seen discarding child porn-related items in a public trash bin.

HOUSTON (AP) The head of the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee is meeting with Houston port officials and other area law enforcement representatives to discuss security at the port. Congressman Michael McCaul is a Houston-area Republican who chairs the committee. The Port of Houston Authority says McCaul will discuss security and recent Middle East development today.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Governor Rick Perry and Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst are slated to address the Texas Association of Business as the Republican continue pressing for spending some of the state's reserves. Perry and Dewhurst will speak this afternoon to the association's annual conference in Austin. Both have called for using part of the state's Rainy Day Fund for water and transportation projects.
