KAUFMAN, Texas (AP) An assistant district attorney has been shot to death outside a North Texas county courthouse. Kaufman County spokeswoman Pat Laney says Mark Hasse was walking across the parking lot behind the courthouse annex yesterday when he was shot multiple times. Authorities are searching for two suspects.
FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) A Fort Hood soldier has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, saying he accidentally shot his friend while trying to scare away his hiccups. Fort Hood officials say Patrick Myers was sentenced yesterday to more than three years in military prison. Myers shot and killed Isaac Young last September while they were watching a football game in Killeen.
HOUSTON (AP) A court-ordered delay for this week's scheduled execution of a Texas woman has angered relatives of the murder victim. Randall Browning was among relatives of Dorothy Booth headed to Huntsville Tuesday to witness the execution of Kimberly McCarthy when they learned a judge had stopped the punishment. Browning says Booth's loved ones have waited 15 years for justice.
HOUSTON (AP) Investigators are looking for clues leading to at least four masked men who terrorized a Houston-area family during an attempted robbery. The Harris County Sheriff's Office says a man was abducted early yesterday and taken to his home, where the intruders tied up his wife and adult son. The man says he and his 23-year-old son were beaten and a Taser was used on everyone there, including a 4-year-old.
