STEPHENVILLE, Texas (AP) Authorities say a 25-year-old man used a semi-automatic handgun to killer former Navy SEAL and "American Sniper" author Chris Kyle and his friend at a Texas gun range. The Erath County Sheriff's Office says the weapon was found at Eddie Ray Routh's home. He is accused of killing Kyle and 35-year-old Chad Littlefield at the Rough Creek Lodge shooting range Saturday evening.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas leaders are sticking to their guns amid a federal effort to crack down on firearms. Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst is calling for state-paid specials weapons and tactics training for Texas school teachers. The Texas State Teachers Association has opposed pushing more teachers into carrying weapons. Some other bills under consideration would allow concealed handgun license holders to carry their weapons into college classrooms.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. (AP) Crews in Colorado are searching for a Texas man who is believed to have gone missing in Rocky Mountain National Park. Thirty-nine-year-old Troy Green of San Antonio had planned to attend a conference in Denver, but he didn't arrive at the event on Friday. Rangers found a vehicle matching Green's rental car at the park early Friday.
OTSEGO, Mich. (AP) A funeral is planned this week for a 38-year-old Michigan soldier who died from injuries he suffered in an insurgent attack in Afghanistan. Mark Schoonhoven died last month at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The sergeant was wounded on December 15th when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
