MIAMI (AP) Authorities say an inmate who escaped in Texas apparently stabbed one of his officer escorts with his eyeglasses before fleeing. Grapevine, Texas, police say 42-year-old Alberto Morales was being returned to Nevada when he escaped Monday night. Morales stabbed the officer in a Walmart parking lot while another officer was inside using the restroom.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) Authorities say a 68-year-old Texas man killed his former daughter-in-law and another woman in a Delaware courthouse lobby before turning the gun on himself. Police say Thomas Matusiewicz of Edcouch, Texas, shot himself in the head after killing 39-year-old Christine Belford and 47-year-old Laura Mulford on Monday. Officials say the women were at the courthouse for a child support hearing for Belford's ex-husband, David Matusiewicz.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Slain former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle has been laid to rest in Austin following a 200-mile funeral procession. About 200 motorcycles, police cruisers and other vehicles made the trip yesterday from Midlothian. Kyle and friend Chad Littlefield were killed at a shooting range on February 2nd.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A top Texas public education official acknowledges the Legislature is likely to slash the number of standardized tests high school students have to pass for graduation. The current testing system known as STAAR features 15 core-subject exams. Education Commissioner Michael Williams says he expects lawmakers to have a "robust conversation" on reducing the number.
