HOUSTON (AP) A former Houston-area teacher jailed on charges of having sex with a 15-year-old student and hiding him when he ran away from home will not be moved to a private mental health clinic. A judge yesterday ruled the Harris County Jail has sufficient mental health resources for 29-year-old Kathryn Murray. Attorneys for the ex-Spring Branch teacher say she's depressed and needs private help.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) A former Air Force instructor in South Texas has pleaded guilty to having sex with a basic training recruit and having an affair with another woman. The San Antonio Express-News reports Craig LeBlanc could get more than 15 years in prison and a dishonorable discharge. More than 20 instructors at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland remain under investigation.
GALVESTON, Texas (AP) Health officials have advised swimmers to avoid some parts of a popular South Texas recreation area because of elevated levels of bacteria. The Galveston County Health District says concentrated amounts of bacteria are present at 12 locations along the Bolivar Peninsula. District officials issued a no-swimming advisory yesterday.
DALLAS (AP) A $10,000 reward is being offered for the capture of a fugitive Florida inmate who stabbed one of two police escorts and escaped near Dallas. Authorities say Alberto Morales was being taken from Florida to Nevada when he stabbed an officer multiple times outside a Dallas-area department store Monday. Grapevine police say the detective from Miami is hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
