BRYAN, Texas (AP) Funeral services for one of two Central Texas firefighters killed in a weekend blaze will be held Friday. A service for Bryan firefighter Gregory Pickard is scheduled before his burial in adjacent College Station. Authorities previously announced Thursday services for fellow firefighter Eric Wallace. Both men died fighting a blaze late Friday.

DALLAS (AP) Russian authorities want to know how a toddler adopted by an American family died in West Texas. Russia's Investigative Committee says it's opened an investigation into the January 21st death of three-year-old Maxim Kuzmin. Russian authorities say the boy's case is another example of "inhuman treatment" by American parents.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) A 21-year-old man is in custody in Mississippi as a suspect in the murder of a North Texas woman. Matthew Woychik was arrested last week in northeastern Mississippi. Authorities say Woychik killed 43-year-old Tammy Bates and hid her body in the garage of her Fort Worth home.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) State lawmakers have approved a measure that would pay for expert testimony to help keep violent sex offenders off the streets. The proposal gained support from a House Appropriations subcommittee yesterday and would provide $128,000 to hire a second expert in complex cases. Budget analysts say both a psychologist and a psychiatrist could be called to testify.
