ODESSA, Texas (AP) Authorities in West Texas say a three-year-old boy adopted from Russia had several bruises on his body when he was brought into a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The case has received international attention in the wake of a recent Russian ban on all American adoptions.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) State lawmaker are considering legislation that could convict local police officers for enforcing any new federal gun control laws. The Firearm Protection Act moved to the House Committee of Federalism yesterday. Representative Steve Toth says the bill would protect officers who defy federal orders to confiscate assault-style rifles and magazines containing more than ten rounds of ammunition.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Texas Association of Business hired a plane to fly around the state Capitol to protest a move to lower standards on school testing.
