DALLAS (AP) About 100 people have been rescued without injury by firefighters after a monorail at the Dallas Zoo stopped operating. Dallas Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said as many as five extension ladders at a time were used to remove the passengers after 3:30 p.m. yesterday.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Fort Worth police are looking for a man who authorities allege killed a dog by throwing the canine off a bridge. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports a witness told police that he was driving on a street Thursday afternoon in northeast Fort Worth when he saw the man walking a dog on the sidewalk on the south side of the road. The witness says he then saw the man throw the dog over the bridge and then walk away.
HOUSTON (AP) A Houston police officer has been accused of telling two women, including an undercover police investigator, that he would tear up their traffic tickets in exchange for sexual favors. Thirty-seven-year-old Victor Chris has been charged with two counts of official oppression. The Houston Chronicle says Chris has been under investigation since a woman filed a complaint against him with the department's internal affairs division 10 months ago.
EDINBURG, Texas (AP) Authorities are conducting a questionable death investigation after the body of a 21-year-old worker was found in a South Texas corn silo. Edinburg police spokesman Oscar Trevino says that the department is conducting the investigation in conjunction with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
