AMARILLO, Texas (AP) Most highways in the Texas Panhandle have been closed overnight because of snow and ice. Shelters for stranded drivers have been set up in Clarendon, Tulia and Groom. Those towns are all south or east of Amarillo, where 19 inches of snow fell and winds gusted to 75 miles per hour.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) Three people are dead in a house fire fanned by gusting winds near San Antonio. Bexar County officials say the victims were in one of five homes that burned as winds gusted higher than 50 miles per hour yesterday.
HOUSTON (AP) Texas licensing officials are investigating a North Texas adoption agency that handled a couple's adoption of a 3-year-old Russian boy. The boy died last month at a hospital in Odessa and Russian authorities say he was abused. But no charges have been filed and the results of an autopsy haven't been released yet.
KOUNTZE, Texas (AP) The Kountze (koonts) school board is taking public comment tonight on a court-ordered halt to its ban on high school cheerleaders putting religious messages on banners at sporting events. The group Freedom from Religion is suing the school district but the cheerleaders have the support of Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.
