MOSCOW (AP) Russian officials have voiced skepticism about the West Texas autopsy on a 3-year-old adopted Russian boy and demanded further investigation. The Ector County Medical Examiner's office in Odessa has ruled Max Shatto's death on January 21st accidental. The case of Max Schatto, born Maxim Kuzmin, has drawn major media scrutiny in Russia weeks after Moscow passed a ban on U.S. adoptions of Russian children.
GARLAND, Texas (AP) A Garland police officer has been fired after an investigation into a chase in which a fleeing, unarmed suspect died after being shot at 41 times. Officer Patrick Tuter was fired Friday. Authorities say Tuter shot and killed Michael Allen of Wylie after the high-speed chase in August 2012. A call to Tuter's attorney was not immediately returned yesterday.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) A small curtain fire above the stage at Fort Worth's Bass Performance Hall was quickly extinguished, but caused the cancellation of an evening performance. No one was injured when the fire ignited shortly before 6 o'clock last night. A performance by the Texas Ballet Theater scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday was canceled, but the group's Sunday afternoon show is still scheduled.
NEW YORK (AP) The NHL has fined Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn $10,000 for cross-checking Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Jones from behind in a game on Thursday night. It was a first-time offense for Benn, who was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct for the cheap shot.
