AUSTIN, Texas (AP) State Supreme Court Justice Wallace Jefferson has told lawmakers a rash of wrongful convictions may raise questions about an overall deficit of justice across Texas. Jefferson today renewed his call for a state commission to investigate exonerations. He also said the state's legal system is "top notch," but only for those who can afford legal services.

DALLAS (AP) Police are investigating whether a North Texas man arrested last weekend is a serial rapist responsible for four attacks dating back to 2008. They say a lead in an attack last month led them to the man who was arrested at his suburban Dallas home. DNA testing will be done.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas House and Senate committees approved a bill to merge Texas Pan-American in Edinburg and Texas-Brownsville into a single university. A key element of the plan is the medical school, which could bring hundreds of doctors to South Texas where they are desperately needed.

HOUSTON (AP) Retail gasoline prices across Texas have slipped 5 cents this week. AAA Texas says the average price at the pump is $3.58 per gallon. Prices range from a low of $3.48 in El Paso to a high of $3.62 in Dallas.
