The grandson of one former president and nephew of another ended speculation about his political plans when he filed official paperwork today. Bush is considered a rising star among conservative Hispanics, and land commissioner can be a stepping stone to higher office in Texas.
HOUSTON (AP) Court documents allege a Houston-area assistant principal had sex with a student in his office during a high school prom last year. Thirty-year-old Mark West was charged yesterday with having an improper relationship with a student. He posted bond, and last week resigned from Spring High School.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Texas Senate has passed a bill allowing local governments to fight the spread of West Nile virus by treating water sources at uninhabited homes. West Nile virus is spread to humans from the bites of infected mosquitoes. Texas had a record number of cases in 2012. The bill now goes to the House.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) A top administrator at the University of Alabama-Huntsville today was unanimously approved as the new president of the University of Texas at Arlington. Vistasp Karbhari (VIS'-tahsp kahrb-HAHR'-ee) was the lone finalist for the job.
