EL PASO, Texas (AP) Leaders of a West Texas school district embroiled in a testing scandal have suspended two administrators. El Paso Independent School District trustees yesterday gave notice to Luis Liano and Vanessa Foreman. Attorneys say their suspensions will be appealed.
BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) An inmate at a Southeast Texas prison must serve a nearly four-year federal term for writing a letter threatening President Barack Obama and his family. Twenty-six-year-old Joseph Sword was sentenced yesterday in federal court. Sword currently is serving time in the Stiles Unit in Beaumont on burglary and robbery convictions.
DALLAS (AP) Fort Worth-based American Airlines has "concern" over letting passengers carry small knives on planes. Senior Vice President Will Ris says government officials should "reassess" changes to the banned-items list so that airlines can review new rules taking effect in late April. Unions for flight attendants, pilots and Delta Air Lines also oppose the TSA's plan.
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) A traffic stop on a Mississippi interstate has led to the discovery of $100,000 worth of cocaine. Officials say deputies searched the vehicle following a traffic stop shortly after midnight yesterday. A Pennsylvania man and a New Jersey man were arrested and charged with cocaine possession. Police believe the men were traveling to Pennsylvania from Texas.
