LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) Record heat has visited West Texas as three cities posted new highs for the Ides of March. Weather forecasters said yesterday that Dalhart, Amarillo and Lubbock all notched new highs Friday. In Lubbock, a National Weather Service meteorologist says the city broke a 47-year-old temperature record by topping 88 degrees.
JACKSONVILLE, Texas (AP) Four people were killed when the car in which they were riding slammed into another vehicle and a semi-truck while on the wrong side of an East Texas highway. The crash happened yesterday morning on U.S. 79, a little over 5 miles east of Jacksonville. Cherokee County Constable Eddie Lee tells KLTV-TV of Tyler that the vehicle with the four people in it was on the wrong side of the road when it sideswiped a sport utility vehicle and slammed head-on into the truck.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) An Air Force trainer at a San Antonio base has been found guilty at court-martial of raping a former trainee. The trial of Staff Sergeant Eddy Soto at Lackland Air Force Base segued directly into the sentencing phase yesterday.
