GALVESTON, Texas (AP) Jury selection has started in the capital murder trial of a southeast Texas man accused of killing a 79-year-old woman last year. Prosecutors say Bartholomew Granger killed Minnie Sebolt and wounded several others, including his ex-wife and daughter, during a shooting spree in Beaumont.

LITTLEFIELD, Texas (AP) Federal authorities are investigating a West Texas glider wreck that killed a 79-year-old man and 13-year-old boy. The manager of the Littlefield airport says the man killed was Eddie Hoglan, who owned the craft, and the teen was Taylor Brown, of Plainview.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Texas Senate has approved a bill that would make leaving the scene of an accident that caused injuries a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000. The House has yet to vote on the measure.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Texas Senate Education Committee has endorsed a bill allowing homeschooled children to participate in University Interscholastic League sports and activities. The committee only approved it after including an amendment that the measure expires in four years.
