AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Early voting in person begins today for the May 11th elections across Texas. Voters in Austin will consider an $892 million school bond issue and voters in El Paso will be choosing a new mayor. The early voting period ends May 7th.

WEST, Texas (AP) A funeral will be held today for two brothers who died in the fertilizer plant explosion in West. Douglas and Robert Snokhous were captains in the West Volunteer Fire Department. They were among 12 emergency responders killed in the April 17th blast.

GALVESTON, Texas (AP) The defense will begin presenting its case today in the capital murder trial of Bartholomew Granger of Houston. Prosecutors say Granger killed a woman and wounded his daughter and her mother outside a courthouse in Beaumont. The trial is being held in Galveston so jurors don't have to walk past the crime scene.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A Democratic state lawmaker has introduced a measure to repeal the death penalty in Texas and a House panel today will hear testimony on the legislation. People on both sides of the debate are expected to testify before the House Criminal Justice committee.
